Father's Day is rapidly approaching, on the 21st of June, and you may find yourself in a quandary of what to purchase. So alongside that ageist humorist card why not get him something delicious to put in the fridge or on the drinks trolley.
Unlike the Christian holiday of ‘Mothering Sunday’ Father's Day gets its origins from the US. A lady called Sonora Smart Dodd, upset by the fact there was no day celebrating fathers, decided to start a day dedicated to her father. She partitioned the local government to change this and it soon started to spread to other states and then worldwide.
With that delightful information in mind let's turn our attention to some delightful drink prospects.
The single malt whisky is made in small batches with locally sourced barley that is traditionally floor-malted. This is then milled, fermented and double distilled at the distillery. It is then aged in premium first fill ex-bourbon barrels and also ex-red wine casks. Once the whisky is fully matured the whisky is then blended and bottled by hand.
This single malt has a great depth of flavour with rich notes of honey, Seville orange marmalade and dark red fruits.
This gin is inspired by the process of making a delightfully rich espresso and foamy frothy cappuccino brought to life and enhanced with gentle spicing reminiscent of a Turkish coffee. This gin combines juniper, pink peppercorns, cardamom, coffee and a range of other botanicals giving the gin a complex flavour profile. My tip for the perfect summer drink is a double of gin and a shot of chilled espresso over ice topped with tonic water!
The iconic ruby red liquid sat in a glass dripping with condensation is the epitome of cool. Your father will imagine himself on the set of a Fellini film enjoying the warm Italian sun. This cocktail is a blend of gin, sweet vermouth and a bitter Italian aperitif liqueur, perfect to serve before Sunday lunch!
A blend of rums from companies producing a sustainable product in Barbados, Nicaragua and other South American countries. It is aged in the best climate in oak barrels and then blended to create the perfect style with all that wonderful colour and flavour coming from the oak. It is then infused with local honey and sustainably sourced spices.
